Workshop Aims

The vast majority of technology used in pediatric hospitals is the same as used in adult hospitals and is often suboptimal for the smaller size, different physiology, and unique diseases of infants and young children. However, pediatrics offers an opportunity to develop novel robotics devices and offers unique opportunities for MRI-guided interventions, since greater precision is often required (for the smaller anatomy) and minimizing radiation exposure is more important (because children are more sensitive to radiation dose and the long term risks of developing cancer are greater). In this half-day workshop we will focus on novel robotic devices under development for pediatric applications, including rehabilitation robotics and MRI-compatible robotics. We also welcome other contributions from colleagues working on robotics projects related to pediatrics.
