International conference for academia and industry.

9th Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics will be held on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 June 2016 at the Royal Geographical Society, London. The theme for this year's Symposium is New Challenges and Emerging Platforms.

The Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics allows surgeons and engineers from across the globe to experience the latest developments in medical robotics. The 9th Symposium will be held on Sunday 26 and Monday 27 June 2016 at the Royal Geographic Society in London. Workshops will be organised for Saturday 25 and Tuesday 28 July 2016. The Symposium annually attracts world-leading scientists, engineers and clinicians from a wide range of disciplines associated with medical robotics and surgery. Every year researchers, clinicians and engineers are invited to submit papers on a range of topics. The expert Programme Committee reviews all papers by rating them against particular criteria.

The symposium will include a series of invited talks by distinguished speakers, a panel debate on breakthrough medical robotics, oral and poster presentations on a wide range of clinical and technical topics, an international audience from leading research organisations and universities in medical robotics, a series of topical workshops, industry exhibits and the Surgical Robot Challenge 2016.

Topics to be addressed by the 2016 symposium include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical highlights in Urology, Cardiac Surgery, Thoracic Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Gynaecology, ENT, Orthopaedic, and Paediatric Surgery;
  • Emerging, multi-speciality applications of robotic technology;
  • Medical robotics for NOTES;
  • Mechatronic designs for medical robotics;
  • Microbot design and applications;
  • Surgical simulation, training and skills assessment;
  • Human robot interaction and ergonomics;
  • Surgical navigation and augmented reality systems;
  • Intra-operative imaging and biophotonics for robotic surgery;
  • Medical image computing and computer assisted intervention;
  • Economic and general consideration of robotic surgery.

All submissions will be reviewed by members of the program review committee and assessed for quality and best means of presentation.
